DEMO – test data. Not the real Table Topper.

Rules

Version 1 · 2026/27 beta. If a rule changes, we'll say so here and tell players by email before it takes effect.

1. Your prediction

  • You predict the final league table for the Premier League (20 teams) and/or the Championship (24 teams). Enter one competition or both.
  • You make one prediction per competition per season. It counts in every private league you're in — including leagues you join later, with your full scoring history.
  • The list starts in a default order (for the 2026/27 beta, the current table). You must press Enter prediction once; nobody is entered on the default order by accident. After that, changes save automatically until the lock.

2. Locking

  • Each competition has a lock time, normally the first kick-off of its season. For the 2026/27 beta, predictions lock on Fri 30 Oct at 8pm for the Championship and Sat 31 Oct at 12:30pm for the Premier League (UK time). The exact time is shown on the predict page (UK time).
  • At the lock every entered prediction is frozen and fingerprinted (SHA-256) so it can't be changed afterwards — not by you, a league owner or us.
  • No entry by the lock means no entry for that competition this season. There are no late entries.
  • Nobody can see anyone else's prediction before the lock. After the lock, everyone in your leagues can see your full prediction.

3. Weekly scoring

  • Every Tuesday at about 03:00 UTC (3–4am UK time) we record the real league table. That includes the Friday-to-Monday games. Midweek games count in the following week's table.
  • If no games were played since the last table (for example an international break), there's no table that week — weeks are skipped, never counted twice.
  • Your score for a week = the sum, over every team, of how many places out you were. Lower is better; 0 is perfect. The worst possible score is 200 (PL) or 288 (Championship).
  • We also count exact hits — teams in exactly the right place.
  • Tables come from football-data.org and are checked before use. If something's wrong we can correct a table or rebuild it from the results (points, then goal difference, then goals scored); every correction is logged.

4. Prizes (per competition, in each league)

  1. Final Table prize: lowest score against the final table, recorded once every match has been played and confirmed by the site admin. Championship play-offs don't change league positions: a play-off winner who finished 5th is still 5th. Points deductions or appeals after the final table is confirmed are ignored unless the admin re-confirms it.
  2. Season-long prize: lowest total of all your weekly scores, including the final week.

Table Topper is free. Any prizes are arranged privately between league members; the site only shows the standings.

5. Ties

  1. Lower score.
  2. More exact hits (season-long: total exact hits over the season).
  3. Smaller single biggest miss (season-long: the biggest miss in any week).
  4. Otherwise the position is shared.

6. Teams that withdraw

If a club is expelled or folds mid-season, scoring follows the published table: the club is left out and everyone's remaining predicted positions close up.

7. The Joker

A one-off swap of two teams after the lock is planned for a later update. It is not active in the 2026/27 beta.

8. Leagues

  • Anyone can create a private league and invite people with a link or 8-character code. Owners can close joining, change the code, remove members and archive the league.
  • League owners can't see predictions before the lock and can never change predictions or scores.
